  • Seven countries have created one-off Triumph Scramblers
  • Builds range from a 400 XC desert racer to a 1200 XE supermoto
  • Public voting remains open until 22 September 2026

Triumph Originals 2026 has entered its voting stage. This year’s custom challenge might be one of the more interesting ways Triumph has celebrated the Scrambler family as seven teams from Canada, China, France, Italy, Spain, the UK and the US have created individual motorcycles around the theme of a ‘Time Capsule’. Using different periods from Scrambler history as their starting point, they’ve created these beautiful bespoke one-off builds.

The most radical transformation arguably comes from Canada as you can see in the main image. Motos Illimitées took a Scrambler 1200 XE and turned it into a large-capacity supermoto with seventeen-inch Thruxton RS wheels replacing the usual off-road setup. Moto-Master wave discs and a custom Zard twin-silencer exhaust reinforce the street-focused character. Indicators have been incorporated into the radiator shrouds, the instruments and ignition have been repositioned and the rear lighting is hidden underneath the mudguard.

Called the BVL-VMX-900, the Chinese entry takes inspiration from the 1981 TR7T Tiger Trail and attempts to recreate the optimistic adventure-bike style of the early 1980s. The bright yellow fuel tank is finished with silver leaf, while a white frame, oversized front mudguard and handmade rear mudguard give the motorcycle its deliberately period-correct appearance. BVL has revised the suspension and wheel setup to raise the motorcycle and increase its off-road ability. Metal 3D printing has also been used during the build.

The French machine, called Red Dust, is built around the idea that a Scrambler should still look better after it has actually been used. FCR Original describes it as a functional and robust motorcycle rather than a decorative object, taking inspiration from the classic 1960s Scrambler while retaining the capability expected from the modern 1200 XE.

For Indian enthusiasts, however, the Italian and Spanish motorcycles may be the most relevant because both use the Scrambler 400 XC as their base.

Italy’s South Garage Motor Co has created the Dune 400 that takes its cues from desert racing motorcycles of the 1980s and 1990s. It receives protective side fairings shaped like those on rally machines, a larger windscreen, tubular protection, knobbly tyres and a high-mounted exhaust. The sand-coloured finish completes the desert-racer theme.

Spain has also chosen the Scrambler 400 XC, but Tamarit Motorcycles has approached the same motorcycle from a much more design-led direction. Tamarit’s concept is built around duality, combining past and present in the same machine. The workshop describes its custom motorcycles as objects that can effectively freeze a particular design moment and still look relevant years later. Rather than following short-lived styling trends, the intention was to create something that could appear equally natural now or decades from now.

UK’s Stockwell Design has used the Scrambler 900 and imagined it as something that has already lived a long life. Instead of creating a pristine retro replica, the British team wanted it to look like a well-used bike that had travelled the world and eventually returned to muddy English lanes. The inspiration comes from the raw, functional character of Scramblers from the 1960s and 1970s, combined with patina and everything.

American entry is a Scrambler 1200 X built by Triumph Columbia River in Portland, Oregon. The motorcycle is called A Tribute to PNW Adventure and takes inspiration from the Pacific Northwest. The team has used US Forest Service vehicles and childhood memories of Smokey Bear as visual references.

Public voting is now open through Triumph’s dedicated Originals platform and will close at 13:00 BST on 22 September 2026. The public result will then be combined with the scores from Triumph’s judging panel.
