The camouflaged prototype reveals a revised grille and apparent rear disc brakes, with Baleno-inspired equipment upgrades expected alongside a new three-cylinder petrol engine.

A few months after launching the Baleno facelift, Maruti Suzuki has begun testing the Fronx facelift, with the first spy shots revealing a heavily camouflaged prototype. The upcoming update is expected to bring minor styling revisions, additional safety and convenience features, and a switch to Maruti’s newer 1.2-litre Z-Series petrol engine.

New Grille, Level 2 ADAS

The test vehicle retains the familiar Fronx silhouette and split-lighting arrangement, with slim upper lighting units and separate headlamps positioned lower down. Openings in the camouflage reveal a revised grille pattern, while the central section remains concealed.

This area could accommodate an ADAS radar module, following the approach seen on the recently updated Baleno. Potential functions include adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, lane-keeping assistance and high-beam assistance.

Minor changes to the front and rear bumpers are also likely. The tail lamps remain partially covered, preventing a clear assessment of their updated design. The sloping roofline, rear spoiler and overall body proportions appear unchanged.

Rear Disc Brakes, Familiar Alloy Wheels

An interesting detail is the apparent presence of rear disc brakes on the prototype. The current India-spec Fronx gets front discs and rear drums across its lineup, making this a potentially significant hardware upgrade.

The cabin is not clearly visible, but the Baleno facelift offers an indication of possible upgrades. Ventilated front seats, wireless charging with cooling, revised upholstery and an upgraded audio system could feature on the refreshed Fronx.

New Z-Series Engine Likely

The biggest expected mechanical change is the replacement of the current 1.2-litre, four-cylinder K-Series petrol engine with the newer 1.2-litre, three-cylinder Z-Series unit. Maruti introduced this engine in the fourth-generation Swift in May 2024, followed by Dzire in November that year. The Baleno facelift adopted it in September 2026, while Toyota’s updated Glanza followed in October.

Since Fronx shares its platform and underlying architecture with Baleno, the same transition would be a logical next step. For reference, the updated Glanza’s Z12E engine produces approximately 83 PS and 112.4 Nm. The current Fronx also offers a separate 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine.

Similar Price Positioning, Taisor Update To Follow?

The update comes at a time when Fronx is delivering strong domestic and export volumes. It ranked sixth among India’s best-selling cars during April–September 2026, recording 1,10,135 units, up 43.40% year-on-year. Fronx also topped India’s car export charts during the same period with 46,147 units.

The current Fronx is offered in Sigma, Delta, Delta+, Zeta and Alpha trims, with petrol manual, AMT, turbo-petrol automatic and CNG choices distributed across the range. Current Fronx price ranges from Rs 6.9 lakh to Rs 12 lakh, ex-sh. The facelift is expected to retain broadly similar price positioning, although additional equipment could command a premium on selected variants.

Toyota’s Urban Cruiser Taisor could receive corresponding updates subsequently, mirroring the recent Baleno–Glanza sequence. Launch dates for either crossover remain unannounced, but the first Fronx facelift sighting signals that development testing is underway ahead of its expected arrival in the coming months, probably at the Bharat Auto Expo in Feb 2027.
