New Honda CBR500R Four Debuts

Powered by a brand-new 502cc inline four-cylinder engine, the new Honda CBR500R Four will compete with rivals like Kawasaki ZX-4RR, Kove 450RR and ZXMoto 500RR

Honda has introduced the CBR500R Four, its all-new bike positioned in the middleweight sportbike segment. This is different from the older CBR500R that uses a parallel-twin engine. All-new CBR500R Four is being offered at a starting price of £6999 in the UK (Rs 8.85 lakh). This is just £100 (~ Rs 13k) more than the older parallel-twin CBR500R. New CBR500R Four will be available in showrooms in Europe from January 2027.

New four cylinder engine

Honda CBR500R Four gets power from an all-new DOHC 16-valve inline four-cylinder engine. It generates 71 bhp of max power at 11,000 rpm and 47.5 Nm of max torque at 9,750 rpm. For A2 license holders in Europe, Honda is also offering a 47 bhp version of the new CBR500R Four. The new engine features multiple innovations to improve overall performance.

For context, Nickel-silicon carbide (Ni-SiC) cylinder plating has helped reduce weight by eliminating the need for conventional cylinder sleeves. DLC-coated valve lifters have been used, which ensure smoother engine operation by reducing friction. The bike uses a new valve angle setting, which helps achieve a high compression ratio. This boosts performance and improves fuel efficiency as well.

A new setup for the downdraft intake optimizes air-fuel filling, resulting in a crisper throttle response. This setup also ensures a distinctive sound from the four-cylinder engine. The bike uses a 4-2-1 exhaust that has a three-chamber return structure. In addition to boosting performance, this setup also helps with regulatory emission compliance.

E-clutch, rider aids, tech package

Honda is offering its E-clutch tech as standard with the new CBR500R Four. This is designed to automatically engage the clutch, ensuring a seamless experience for riders during take-offs, shifts and stops. Honda E-Clutch and similar systems offered by other brands have gained widespread popularity among both new and experienced riders. With E-clutch, users have the freedom to go with clutch-free operations or use the clutch lever for full manual control.

All-new CBR500R Four packs in a range of useful rider aids. These include throttle-by-wire (TBW), Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC), Wheelie Control and selectable riding modes of Standard, Sport, Urban and two user-customizable modes. The bike has a 5-inch TFT instrument console with Honda RoadSync. Connected via Bluetooth, users can access calls, messages, music and navigation. The TFT screen has customizable backgrounds and three distinct display styles.
