Duster Hybrid Mileage Compared

Certified figure of 29 km/l gives the strong hybrid a substantial efficiency advantage over existing Duster turbo-petrol options. For reference, 1.0-litre petrol delivers 19.4 km/l, while 1.3-litre petrol returns 17.7 km/l.

On these figures, hybrid offers approximately 49.5% higher mileage than 1.0-litre version and 63.8% higher mileage than 1.3-litre. The differences amount to 9.6 km/l and 11.3 km/l, respectively. Actual on-road efficiency will vary with driving conditions, traffic and driving style.

At 29 km/l, Renault Duster hybrid’s ARAI-certified mileage is slightly higher than 27.97 km/l offered by Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder hybrid and Maruti Grand Vitara hybrid. This gives hybrid Duster an advantage of 1.03 km/l, or approximately 3.7%, on certified figures. Real-world efficiency will depend on driving conditions and usage.

1.8-Litre Strong Hybrid With 160 PS

Duster strong hybrid E-Tech 160 combines a 1.8-litre petrol engine with two electric motors and a 1.4 kWh battery. Combined system output is rated at 160 PS. An intelligent multi-mode transmission manages the petrol engine and electric motors according to driving conditions. It can operate on electric power under suitable conditions, recover energy during braking and deceleration, and switch between electric and combustion propulsion.

The battery charges during vehicle operation, eliminating the need to connect to an external charger. Renault says the system is designed to balance performance and fuel efficiency while delivering smooth transitions between operating modes. Hybrid is expected to give a boost to Duster sales, which have been on a decline.

Renault Positions Hybrid As A Diesel Alternative

Diesel played an important role in the original Duster’s appeal in India. With the current model offering turbo-petrol engines, Renault is now presenting the strong hybrid as another choice for customers who prioritise both performance and fuel efficiency.

Francisco Hidalgo, Vice President, Sales and Marketing, Renault Group India, said the introduction brings Renault’s established European E-Tech technology to Indian customers. He highlighted the combination of 160 PS, 29 km/l certified mileage and the convenience of not requiring external charging.

October 17 Launch – Prices Awaited

The current Duster petrol lineup is priced between Rs 10.49 lakh and Rs 18.69 lakh, ex-showroom. Renault has not yet announced hybrid prices, making its positioning relative to the higher petrol variants an important detail to watch at the October 17 debut. The Duster will also become Renault’s first E-Tech model in India under its futuREady roadmap, marking a step in the brand’s local electrification plans.
