Volvo EX90 eSUV Launch
Where design is concerned, Volvo EX90 exudes minimalism, which has been the Swedish carmaker’s hallmark. Thor’s Hammer LED DRLs now get a Pixel-style LED signature which also extends into the bumper now. These headlights are quite special because they conceal the headlights when not in use and DRLs pop up within the housing to reveal the actual headlights.
Closed-off grille at the front has the Volvo emblem sitting proudly. At the sides, we get 21-inch alloy wheels, upright stance, a strong and proportionate silhouette, flush door handles and unique ORVM design. Doors are not frameless with EX90, even though they sit flush with the pillars. Underbody claddings get glossy Black shade.
At the rear, C-shaped LED tail light signature and the actual brake lights are vertical, flanking rear windshield. Volvo EX90 measures 5,037 mm in length, 1,964 mm in width, 1,747 mm in height and has a 2,985 mm long wheelbase. Ground clearance is 213 mm with Volvo EX90, but it can be raised to 250 mm as it gets air suspension at all four wheels.
Interiors, Powertrain
On the inside, the most notable element in Volvo EX90 are the lighter shades used with the dual-tone interior. After shifting gaze from the lighter tones, immediately noticeable is the 14.5-inch portrait-style infotainment screen with built-in Google services and then the sheer lack of physical controls. ADAS, 25-speaker Bowers & Wilkins system, auto park, 360 cameras, digital key and others are notable attributes.
Most in-car related functions are integrated into the infotainment screen there is a 9-inch horizontal instrument cluster. Volvo EX90 is offered as a 6-seater in India with three-rows of seating and captain seats in second row. These can slide and recline to liberate more room for third-row occupants. Boot space is 324L as standard, expandable to 690L with third row folded. Frunk space is 46L.
Powering the Volvo EX90 is a large 106 kWh battery pack, sending juice to two electric motors with a combined output of 456 bhp and 670 Nm. Claimed 0-100 km/h sprint with Volvo EX90 is 5.5 seconds and top speed is capped at 180 km/h. WLTP rated range is 625 km. DC charging can go till 350 kW, topping up from 10-80% SOC in 22 minutes and the 11 kW AC charger takes 11 hours for a full charge. Alongside the Volvo EX90 electric SUV, the Swedish carmaker was expected to launch the ES90 electric sedan, which is not the case.
