Yamaha R2M and R15M

A possible withdrawal of the R15M could create clearer price and feature separation between the R15 V4 and Yamaha’s new R2

Yamaha’s recently introduced R2 could bring changes to the positioning of its smaller fully faired motorcycles. Reports suggest the company may discontinue the R15M, creating more separation between the R15 V4 and the larger-capacity R2. Yamaha has not officially confirmed the move.

The R15M currently occupies the space between the regular R15 V4 and R2, combining the familiar 155cc platform with additional equipment and premium finishes. Its possible withdrawal could simplify the lineup, leaving the R15 V4 as the more accessible option and the R2 as the next step for buyers seeking stronger performance.

Yamaha R15 and R2 Prices. Ex-sh.

How Yamaha’s R-Series Prices Compare

The price comparison places the R15 S at Rs 1.59 lakh, followed by the R15 V4 at Rs 1.75–1.79 lakh. The R15M spans Rs 1.79–2 lakh, while the R2 sits at Rs 2.30–2.40 lakh. The R2M tops this lineup at Rs 2.53 lakh. All prices are ex-sh.

At these prices, the most expensive R15M is approximately Rs 30,000 below the entry R2. If the R15M is withdrawn and the remaining prices stay unchanged, the gap between the top-priced R15 V4 and entry R2 would widen to approximately Rs 51,000. That would establish a clearer price step between the two platforms, rather than buyers choosing between a better-equipped 155cc motorcycle and a larger-capacity alternative relatively close in price.

Yamaha R15 Sales – Last 6 Months

R15 Sales Fell To 7,691 Units In August

The possible portfolio revision comes after a decline in R15 sales in August 2026. Combined volumes across the R15 range stood at 7,691 units, down 26.79% from July’s 10,505 units and the lowest monthly figure in the last 6 months. Before that, sales had fluctuated between 8,133 and 10,505 units.

R2 Offers A Significant Performance Step

The R2’s main advantage is its larger engine. Compared with the R15M’s 155cc unit producing 18.4 PS and 14.2 Nm, the R2’s 204cc engine delivers 26.5 PS and 19.1 Nm. That represents an increase of 8.1 PS and 4.9 Nm, giving buyers a substantial performance step rather than an equipment-only upgrade. The R2 has a quoted kerb weight of 149 kg.

Its equipment range also includes a bi-directional quickshifter, compared with the upshift-only system on the R15M, along with Street, Sport and Rain riding modes. Other highlights include a smart key, adjustable suspension and controls, with availability depending on the version.

The chassis designs differ too: the R15M uses Yamaha’s Deltabox frame, while the R2 employs a steel-tube diamond frame. This is a difference in construction rather than, by itself, an indication of superior handling.
