After the highly anticipated Yamaha R2 was launched about a month ago, deliveries of the motorcycle have recently commenced in select parts of India. The motorcycle sits above the R15 V4, and its prices start from Rs. 2.30 lakh. The top-end M variant, meanwhile, goes up to Rs. 2.53 lakh, ex-showroom.

The R2 has many tricks up its sleeve for a small 200cc offering. Powering the bike is a 204cc, liquid-cooled, DOHC, single-cylinder engine that produces 26.1bhp and 19.1Nm. It is paired with a six-speed gearbox and gets a slip-and-assist clutch as standard. The mid-spec and M variants also get a bi-directional quick shifter. The sportbike is built around a diamond frame that is suspended by a USD fork at the front and a monoshock at the rear. It rides on 17-inch alloy wheels with disc brakes at both ends. The top-spec R2 M gets preload-adjustable front suspension and adjustable clutch and brake levers.

The R2, just like the R15, is impressively packed with features and electronics. It gets a TFT instrument console with smartphone connectivity. It also comes with three riding modes – Street, Sport and Rain – along with traction control as standard across all variants. The R2 M additionally gets a Smart Key System for keyless ignition. The Yamaha R2 exists in a barely competitive space, which is also occupied by the KTM RC 200 and Hero Karizma XMR, both of which have been struggling to pull buyers towards them.
