  • New 37mm Showa SFF-BP inverted front fork
  • Four-piston radial callipers replace the older two-piston units

MY27 Kawasaki Ninja 650 bring updates to its front suspension, brakes and electronics. This 649cc parallel-twin everyday-friendly character remains the same, but the changes are for areas where the current Ninja 650 had begun to feel dated against newer middleweight motorcycles.

2026 Ninja 650 sold in India uses a conventional 41mm telescopic fork. For 2027, Kawasaki has replaced that with a 37mm Showa SFF-BP Separate Function Fork-Big Piston inverted fork. The larger piston allows lower damping pressure and should improve control during weight transfer when braking and entering corners. The rear shock also receives a higher spring rate to work with the revised front-end setup.

The front brakes receive an equally useful change. Current Indian Ninja 650 has twin 300mm discs with two-piston callipers. MY27 motorcycle retains twin 300mm discs but replaces those callipers with opposed four-piston radial-mount units. This should improve response at the lever and provide more progressive braking control. There is also a wider front mudguard designed to cover more of the new fork legs.

There are changes inside the cockpit as well with the Ninja 650 continuing with a 4.3-inch colour TFT, but with a redesigned display layout. Smartphone connectivity through Rideology is also expanded to include navigation and voice-command functions. Kawasaki notes that the voice-command facility requires a separate licence and its availability depends on the individual market, so it remains to be seen whether that feature will be offered on the eventual Indian motorcycle.

Another addition is Kawasaki Quick Shifter compatibility. For the first time on the Ninja 650, KQS will be offered as an accessory enabling clutchless upshifts under acceleration. It is not standard equipment. Also on the European MY27 specification, seat height drops slightly to 785mm, while kerb weight is listed at 194kg. There are three colours for 2027, Lime Green, Metallic Flat Spark Black with Metallic Carbon Gray, and Metallic Matte Graphenesteel Gray with Metallic Spark Black. Indian colour availability may differ when the motorcycle arrives here.
