  • Limited to just 873 units, India allocation sold out
  • Based on the underpinnings of the Scrambler

Ducati has unveiled the Formula 73 in India, priced at Rs. 20.00 lakh (ex-showroom). Limited to just 873 units worldwide, only a handful will reach India, and Ducati says it has already sold out its Indian allocation.

The Formula 73 pays homage to the 1973 Ducati Super Sport Desmo, Ducati’s first-ever road bike to utilise the company’s legendary desmodromic valve system. The Super Sport Desmo was heavily based on the 750 Imola Desmo, a widely successful race bike that logged more than 400 victories for Ducati across multiple competitions.

The Formula 73 itself is based on the Ducati Scrambler while taking on a retro-styled cafe racer appearance. It comes finished in a silver and aqua green paint scheme inspired by the 750 Super Sport Desmo, with gold details and accents. The look is completed with clip-on handlebars, bar-end mirrors and a small semi-fairing with integrated windshield and LED headlight. The Formula 73 also gets billet aluminium brake and clutch levers, and a Rizoma billet fuel-cap.

Underneath the gorgeous bodywork, Ducati has dispatched the Formula 73 with its 803cc, ‘Desmodue’ L-twin engine, producing 73bhp at 8,250rpm and 65Nm of torque. The Desmodue is also air-cooled, which should fit the laid-back, old-school appeal of the Formula 73. Ducati has also curated a special exhaust system for the Formula 73, developed in conjunction with Termignoni.

Mind you, the Formula 73 isn’t your average tribute motorcycle. Underneath the neo-vintage exterior is a steel trellis frame, suspended on upside-down forks and riding on 17-inch spoked wheels wearing Pirelli Diablo Rosso tyres. It also comes bundled with the usual medley of modern amenities, such as traction control, ride-by-wire, quickshifter, and lean-sensitive ABS.
