  • Official debut to take place on 13 September
  • It will be based on the Z900

A newly released teaser of the upcoming Kawasaki Versys 900 gives a glimpse of a few details of the motorcycle and confirms the date of its global unveiling. Scheduled to break cover on 13 October, the motorcycle will be based on the Z900 naked street bike, but a few changes will make it more touring-friendly, something that the entire Versys series stands for.

A fast-passing shot of the motorcycle shows the Versys 650-like quarter fairing along with a decently tall windscreen for keeping wind blast at bay. One can also decipher that the seating ergonomics on offer will be more upright than its naked sibling, which will make it comfortable for spending long hours in the saddle. In a close-up clip of the front end, the motorcycle can be seen sporting a pair of LED headlamps, which look identical to those on the Z900, although the Versys also has additional LED projectors sitting underneath. Given the touring-focused persona of the Versys, these projector lights should come as standard.

In traditional Versys fashion, this upcoming 900cc sport tourer will ride on 17-inch alloy wheels at both ends. However, there should be more suspension travel than the Z900 on offer. Other differences could be a bigger fuel tank, heavier kerb weight, roomier seats, and accessory luggage options. The engine, meanwhile, might remain the same smooth and tractable 948cc, inline-four, liquid-cooled unit that does duty on the Z. It produces 123.6bhp and 98.6Nm of peak torque while being mated to a six-speed gearbox. The electronics package could also remain the same as the Z, with bits like a TFT display, IMU-assisted rider aids, and a bidirectional quick shifter.
