KTM has opened a new independent assembly plant for completely knocked-down (CKD) units in Manaus, Brazil, replacing its former partnership with Dafra Motos. The new facility, inaugurated on October 17, will assemble 10 models across the motocross, enduro and adventure segments, including the India-made KTM 390 Adventure R and 390 Adventure X.
- The Manaus plant will assemble completely knocked-down units
- In first phase, 3,500-unit production capacity is expected by 2026 end
- BRL 20 million (equivalent to Rs 37.66 crore) invested in facilities and equipment
It will also assemble the India-made 390 Adventure R and 390 Adventure X for local markets
The new facility began operations with 100 direct and indirect employees, with an installed annual capacity of 20,000 motorcycles. This plant carries out kit preparation, engine assembly, motorcycle assembly, quality control, packing and shipping.
The facility will assemble ten motorcycles across the motocross, enduro and adventure segments. These include the KTM 250 SX-F and 450 SX-F in the motocross line-up, the KTM 250 EXC-F, 350 EXC-F 6DAYS, 300 EXC and 300 EXC 6DAYS, as well as the Husqvarna FE 350 and TE 300 PRO, in the enduro segment. Lastly, the KTM 390 Adventure R and KTM 390 Adventure X, manufactured here in India, will also be assembled for local markets at the new plant.
Currently, KTM and Husqvarna have 12 authorised outlets in Brazil, and the aim is to expand the network to 30 by 2027. As the local assembly in Brazil increases, the Chakan plant in Pune can gradually evolve from exporting complete motorcycles to supplying the necessary components, engineering expertise and product knowledge. Managing its own operations in Brazil will improve efficiency, product availability and drive dealer network growth.
BRL-to-INR conversions are based on exchange rates at the time of writing.
