Six months after our report on the development of the Mahindra XUV 3XO CNG first surfaced, a test mule has been spied on public roads. The spotting comes just days before the car’s official debut on October 15, 2026, giving us a first look at some of its design details. Currently, the segment’s only other CNG offerings are the Maruti Suzuki Brezza and Tata Nexon.

  • Spotted with a ‘CNG’ sticker on the rear windscreen.
  • Gets connected tail-lamps, rear spoiler and black bumper with a skid plate.

The test mule spotted was almost entirely undisguised, as seen in these spy images. However, they mainly show us the rear of the XUV 3XO CNG. A few design elements shared with the non-CNG variants of the XUV 3XO include the ‘XUV 3XO’ branding, roof rails, rear spoiler, connected tail-lamps, and the chunky black bumper with a silver skid plate and static reflectors. What’s new here, though, is the ‘CNG’ sticker on the rear windscreen.

Mahindra XUV 3XO CNG: Expected powertrain details

The factory-fitted CNG kit is likely to be offered with the lower-powered turbo-petrol engine

The petrol-powered XUV 3XO comes with two 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine options. The base unit uses multi-point fuel injection (MPFI), and produces 111hp and 200Nm of torque. Meanwhile, the direct-injection unit develops 131hp and 230Nm of torque. For the XUV 3XO CNG, Mahindra could use the MPFI engine to keep costs in check.

While details on transmission options are unknown, the non-CNG petrol variants are available with 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic gearboxes. There’s also no clarity on the type and placement of the CNG tank, which are likely to be revealed closer to launch. Alongside the upcoming CNG version, the Mahindra XUV 3XO’s line-up will also boast petrol, diesel and fully electric powertrain options.

Mahindra XUV 3XO CNG: Expected price

The upcoming Mahindra XUV 3XO CNG is expected to cost more than its petrol-only counterparts. For reference, the XUV 3XO is currently priced between Rs 7.79 lakh and Rs 15.04 lakh (ex-showroom). Rivals of the XUV 3XO CNG will include the Maruti Brezza CNG and Tata Nexon CNG.
