Mahindra Auto is taking big strides into the SUV realm, the automaker was only heavily invested in traditional ICE powertrains and fully electric vehicles, with no ‘Green’ offerings in the middle. Rivals have operated here with CNG vehicles and Mahindra is filling this is the vacuum with XUV3XO ZNG, pronounced XUV3XO Zing.
The launch price of XUV3XO ZNG is Rs 9.99 lakh (Ex-sh) and it is Mahindra’s first PV CNG offering after KUV100 Trip. There are 4 trim levels to choose from. Starts with MX Edge ZNG priced at Rs 9.99 lakh, REVX Edge (O) ZNG priced at Rs 10.79 lakh, AX5 ZNG at Rs 11.19 lakh and top-spec REVX A ZNG at Rs 12.27 lakh (all prices Ex-sh).
Mahindra XUV3XO ZNG Launch
Known for its rugged SUVs, Mahindra Auto has quickly emerged as India’s favourite SUV maker. XUV3XO is Mahindra’s most affordable offering and comes with Petrol engines. Mahindra is expanding the horizon for XUV3XO with a factory-fitted CNG kit and it is the more practical and logical dual-cylinder CNG storage solution.
With two CNG storage tanks instead of one, Mahindra has well packaged the already cramped boot of XUV3XO with good space utilization. When compared to conventional single-tank storage solutions with negligible usable boot, dual-tank solutions are far superior and offer a much more usable boot.
Now that Mahindra XUV3XO ZNG is launched, this sub 4m B SUV is offered in four fuel options – Petrol, Diesel, CNG and EV. This offers a diverse range of variants for buyers to choose and at different price points with different fuel options, making XUV3XO just as versatile as its immediate rival, the Tata Nexon. Just like Nexon, spare wheel is retained too, positioned under the body.
Specs, Features, Mileage
Mahindra XUV3XO ZNG is based on the 1.2L Turbo Petrol MPFI engine and not the higher-spec GDI engine. This powertrain is engineered to be a bi-fuel unit, capable of running on both Petrol and CNG. This CNG engine is rated at 114.5 PS of peak power and 200 Nm of peak torque, thanks to a 10-bar injection pressure, as oppsoed to industry’s 5-6 bar pressure. This way, there’s no drop in pressure over its Petrol-only counterpart.
Rated fuel efficiency is of Mahindra XUV3XO ZNG is 24.7 km/kg and real world fuel efficiency will be slightly lower than that. 0-60 km/h sprint comes up in around 4.9 seconds and 0-100 km/h sprint comes up in 11.8 seconds. Semi-independent rear suspension hardware is carried over, but it is re-tuned to cope with the added weight of CNG hardware.
Safety features include 6 airbags, seatbelt reminders for all seats, all-four disc brakes and a robust reinforced chassis, promising 5 Star crash rating even with CNG equipment. There is a CNG – Petrol button on the dashboard above the Auto Engine start / stop button, beside the headlight leveler. Instrument cluster is optimised to accommodate both Petrol fuel level and CNG tank level along with relevant trip computers.
