Fresh spy shots reveal lettering beneath the upcoming Hyundai EV’s camouflage, hinting at a possible teaser wrap ahead of its expected February 2027 launch.
Hyundai’s upcoming small electric SUV has been spotted testing again in Chennai. While the vehicle remains heavily covered, the latest spy shots reveal a new detail—lettering incorporated into the camouflage around the roof rails and rear side-window pillars. This treatment resembles the typography-based wrap seen on the Hyundai Bayon during its pre-launch.
Internally known as HE1i, the upcoming sub-4-metre electric SUV is expected to compete primarily with Tata Punch EV. Its launch is anticipated at the Bharat Auto Expo in February 2027, with more details likely to emerge as testing progresses.
New Camouflage Hints At Upcoming Teaser Reveal
Previous sightings of Hyundai’s small EV largely showed conventional camouflage and heavy black fabric covers. In the latest photographs, exposed sections feature a white background with oversized black and red lettering, alongside smaller text arranged in different orientations.
The resemblance to Bayon’s teaser camouflage is noticeable. That SUV carried words such as “Innovation”, “Transformation” and “Expression”, along with a prominent “Bring It On” slogan. On the EV, only fragments of lettering are visible, making it difficult to identify a complete word or message.
With Bayon already revealed and its launch scheduled for today, Hyundai could follow a similar approach for the electric SUV in the coming weeks. A teaser camouflage reveal would offer a clearer look at its proportions while keeping finer styling details concealed. The EV could receive its own campaign message, although neither the wording nor such a reveal has been confirmed.
Boxy Profile, Roof Rails And Distinctive Wheels
The Chennai sighting provides a clear rear three-quarter view of the test vehicle. Its upright stance, relatively flat roofline and squared-off rear suggest an emphasis on cabin practicality. Large side windows and roof rails further define the profile.
Geometric dual-tone alloy wheels are another prominent feature. Their broad, contrasting surfaces suit the EV’s angular appearance, although the extensive covers continue to conceal the final door panels, wheel arches and bumpers.
Sections of the rear lamps are visible through openings in the camouflage, while the mirror-mounted indicator is illuminated in the photographs. The rear windscreen remains behind a mesh-covered opening. These images reveal little of the front fascia, leaving its final lighting arrangement and bumper design under wraps.
First Hyundai Car In India To Get Pleos Connect
In the latest spy shot as well, we can see the Pleos Connect screen behind the steering wheel. Hyundai has confirmed next-generation infotainment for its upcoming India EV. Equipment such as a 360-degree camera, Level 2 ADAS, a sunroof and ventilated front seats remains among the expectations for the model, potentially depending on the variant.
The upcoming SUV is expected to use a derivative of Hyundai’s E-GMP (K) architecture, with local manufacturing and a high level of localisation intended to support competitive pricing. Production will take place at the Chennai plant.
Earlier estimates pointed to battery capacities of around 40–50 kWh and a claimed range of approximately 450 km. These remain preliminary expectations, with final specifications and prices awaited.
