Considering the price sensitive sub-4-meter SUV segment, the full Pleos package could be offered with the higher trims of Hyundai’s new EV
Hyundai is working on more than two dozen models for the Indian market, which will be launched by FY2030. One of these is a new sub-4-meter electric SUV (codenamed HE1i), which will primarily rival Tata Punch EV.
Ahead of its launch later this or early 2027, Hyundai’s small EV has been spotted multiple times during road tests. In the latest spy shots, the rumoured Pleos Connect next-gen infotainment system has been spotted. The EV also appears to be using sequential turn signals. Hat tip to azozofficial for sharing the exclusive spy shots.
Hyundai sub-4-meter EV to get Pleos
Pleos Connect was first seen with the Grandeur in Korea. It has been introduced with other Hyundai models as well, such as Ioniq 3, Elantra and Tucson. Pleos aims to reduce information overload and focus on core essentials like speed, fuel efficiency and available range.
Hyundai’s Pleos Connect system comprises a large central touchscreen and a smaller digital display. The latter is mounted on the dashboard, in the driver’s line of sight. Hyundai India has confirmed that their upcoming EV for India will feature a next gen infotainment system.
It’s the slimmer dashboard mounted unit that focuses on the vital information. This display can be clearly seen in the latest spy shots. The larger, centrally mounted infotainment screen is covered under wraps, but its outline can still be seen.
Hyundai uses standardized screen sizes for the Pleos Connect system. The larger display is a 17-inch unit, whereas the smaller display is a 9.9-inch unit. However, in a recent move in some countries, Hyundai has axed the smaller 9.9-inch digital display in the base variants of select models and made it an optional extra.
Hyundai compact EV – Key highlights, powertrain, range
In addition to Pleos Connect, Hyundai’s new sub-4-meter electric SUV will have various other premium features. It could get wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, automatic climate control, a sunroof and ventilated front seats.
Seating arrangement is expected to be highly customizable, allowing users more choices in terms of practical applications and cargo handling. Being a ground-up EV, it is expected to have good space on the inside.
A comprehensive range of safety features are expected with Hyundai’s upcoming small EV. It could get up to 7 airbags and a 360 degree camera. A range of Level 2 ADAS features are also expected. Hyundai’s new electric SUV is likely using a derivative of the modular E-GMP (K) platform. It could get battery packs of around 40-50 kWh capacity. Claimed range could be around 450 kms.
Hyundai’s new sub-4-meter eSUV will be manufactured in India. It will have a high level of localization. In addition to the domestic market, the electric SUV will also be retailed across multiple global markets. A starting price of under Rs 10 lakh could help generate the desired volumes.
