Toyota Innova Hycross facelift is set to launch in India on November 26. The update will bring revised styling and is also expected to introduce a flex-fuel hybrid powertrain, adding a significant mechanical development to the changes seen on test vehicles.
Our earlier spy-shot coverage highlighted the redesigned front fascia and a largely familiar cabin, with the infotainment screen deliberately concealed. However, the facelift’s biggest change could be under the bonnet, reports Car and Bike. An official announcement from Toyota detailing the launch and production specifications is awaited.
Flex-Fuel Hybrid Could Be The Main Highlight
Toyota has previously showcased an Innova Hycross-based flex-fuel strong-hybrid prototype. It combined a modified 2.0-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine with electric assistance and was configured to run on petrol-ethanol blends of up to E85, containing 85% ethanol.
The previously showcased prototype featured several modifications to accommodate higher ethanol content. These included changes to the spark plugs and piston rings, along with an ethanol sensor, a revised fuel pump and filter, and different materials for the fuel tank and fuel lines.
Other measures included a cold-start system and changes to catalyst programming. These modifications addressed requirements associated with ethanol compatibility, starting performance and emissions control. The upcoming facelift will bring a flex-fuel powertrain to the Indian market. It would become Toyota’s first flex-fuel passenger vehicle to go on sale in India.
Revised Front Design Patented
Previous spy shots and patent drawings have pointed to a substantially revised front fascia. The updated design features slimmer-looking lighting elements and a new grille treatment, with a perforated central section appearing to blend into the bumper.
This gives the Hycross a different visual identity while retaining its familiar overall proportions. The side profile is expected to remain largely unchanged, although revised alloy wheels are possible. Changes to the rear bumper and tail-lamp detailing could complete the exterior update.
Cabin Updates
Spy shots showed a familiar dashboard, raised centre console, automatic gear selector and door-mounted seat adjustment controls. The infotainment display, however, was blocked by a folder. That left open the possibility of an upgraded screen or revised infotainment system, without providing visual confirmation of either. Toyota could introduce additional equipment, new upholstery or software improvements while retaining the existing dashboard architecture.
Current Innova Hycross Prices And Powertrains
The existing Innova Hycross is priced from Rs 19.53 lakh to Rs 32.95 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai). Its lineup comprises GX, GX(O), VX, VX(O), ZX and ZX(O) trims, with seven- and eight-seat configurations depending on the variant.
Powertrain options include a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine paired with a CVT, and a 2.0-litre strong-hybrid setup with an e-CVT. Listed ARAI-certified fuel efficiency stands at 16.13 km/l for the petrol and 23.24 km/l for the hybrid. Both are listed as E20-compatible, making support for higher ethanol blends a potentially significant addition with the facelift.
Crysta Replacement Plans Add Significance
As reported in April, Toyota is expected to discontinue the Innova Crysta in early 2027, with a more affordable Hycross Hybrid variant reportedly under consideration to cater to fleet operators. The November facelift could provide an opportunity to expand the hybrid lineup, although there is no confirmation that a lower-priced variant will debut alongside it.
The existing Hycross range starts at Rs 19.53 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai), but that entry price is for the regular petrol version. Pricing of the updated hybrid lineup will therefore be particularly relevant for buyers considering an alternative to the diesel Crysta.
