Bajaj’s domestic sales fell 12.80% in September, while strong Chetak growth helped keep July–September volumes marginally ahead of last year.

Bajaj Auto’s domestic two-wheeler sales presented a mixed picture in September and the third quarter of calendar year 2026. While Pulsar remained its largest-selling brand, Chetak delivered the biggest volume gains. September sales stood at 2,28,004 units, down 12.80% from 2,61,468 units a year earlier. For July–September 2026, however, Bajaj registered 5,63,754 units, a marginal increase of 0.21% over 5,62,594 units in the corresponding quarter last year.

Pulsar led Bajaj’s domestic lineup with 1,36,313 units in September, accounting for 59.79% of total volumes. Sales declined 12.51% from 1,55,798 units a year earlier, translating into a reduction of 19,485 units. Chetak moved in the opposite direction, growing 40.50% to 42,934 units from 30,558 units. The electric scooter added 12,376 units year-on-year and contributed 18.83% of Bajaj’s September sales.

Platina recorded the largest absolute decline among the brand families. Sales fell 39.04% to 37,952 units from 62,260 units, a reduction of 24,308 units. CT volumes also declined, dropping 32.09% to 4,324 units. Dominar and Avenger were the other growth contributors. Dominar sales increased 73.37% to 2,259 units, while Avenger grew 12.82% to 2,148 units. Freedom recorded 2,074 units, down 36.73% from 3,278 units.

Higher-Capacity Pulsars Register Growth

The engine-capacity breakup shows that Pulsar’s overall decline was concentrated in its smaller-capacity offerings. Sales in the 111–125cc category fell 27.70% to 66,330 units, while the 126–150cc category declined 7.12% to 20,251 units. In contrast, Pulsar volumes in the 151–200cc category increased 17.07% to 38,799 units. The 201–250cc category grew 7.91% to 8,365 units, while the 251–350cc category rose 88.96% to 2,568 units.

Dominar showed a similar shift within the reported capacity categories. Its 201–250cc volumes dropped to just six units, while the 251–350cc category increased 270.56% to 2,253 units. Avenger recorded no volumes in the 151–200cc category, compared with 1,489 units last September. Its 201–250cc category grew to 2,148 units from 415 units, supporting overall growth for the cruiser family.

Chetak Drives Q3 2026 Performance

For July–September 2026, Pulsar remained Bajaj’s largest brand with 3,00,308 units and a 53.27% share. However, volumes declined 12.58% from 3,43,524 units. Chetak was the standout performer, with sales rising 153.52% to 1,42,366 units from 56,156 units. Its contribution reached 25.25% of Bajaj’s quarterly domestic volumes. The additional 86,210 Chetaks were instrumental in offsetting motorcycle declines.

Platina sales fell 29.38% to 92,370 units, while CT declined 28.49% to 12,153 units. Freedom volumes dropped 31% to 4,861 units. Dominar more than doubled its quarterly sales, growing 104.51% to 6,301 units. Avenger registered a smaller increase of 7.90%, reaching 5,395 units.

Changing Sales Mix

The quarterly capacity breakup reinforced September’s trend. Pulsar’s 111–125cc and 126–150cc categories declined 26.63% and 29.26%, respectively. Meanwhile, its 151–200cc, 201–250cc and 251–350cc categories grew 23.27%, 23.70% and 161.81%.

Bajaj’s quarterly performance therefore reflects two distinct trends: pressure on smaller-capacity motorcycles and growth in Chetak and higher-capacity offerings. Chetak’s expansion helped keep overall July–September sales broadly stable, although September’s double-digit decline shows that gains were insufficient to offset the month’s motorcycle volume losses.
