Suzuki launched the GSX-8R last year at an ex-showroom price of Rs 9.25 lakh. After the GST 2.0 revision, that price steeply jumped to Rs 9.81 lakh. Considering the 8R isn’t the flashiest option in the segment to begin with, the change is likely to have affected its chances. To ameliorate the situation, Suzuki is currently offering a Rs 80,000 cash discount on the middleweight motorcycle in India – until stocks last, that is.

All prices mentioned are ex-showroom, Delhi.

  1. Suzuki GSX-8R is priced at Rs 9.89 lakh (ex-showroom), pre-discount
  2. Its 776cc parallel-twin makes 83hp and 78Nm
  3. It is one of three models in Suzuki’s big bikes portfolio

Now costs much less than Triumph Daytona 660 and Street Triple 765 R

If you’re unfamiliar with the GSX-8R, it has a 776cc parallel-twin-cylinder engine that metes out 82.9hp and 78Nm. On the electronics side, Suzuki has given the GSX-8R a TFT display, ride-by-wire, three ride modes, four levels of traction control, a bi-directional quickshifter and all-LED lighting as standard. The GSX-8R is available in three colours: Metallic Triton Blue, Metallic Matte Sword Silver and Metallic Mat Black No.2.

The GSX-8R may not be as popular as the Hayabusa, but during our time with the bike, we found it to be an excellent all-rounder. With the Rs 80,000 discount, the effective price becomes Rs 9.09 lakh, meaning it undercuts the recently updated Triumph Daytona 660 (Rs 9.99 lakh) by a fair margin of Rs 90,000. Following the discontinuation of Honda’s 650s, these two models are effectively the only middleweights you can get in our market. Suzuki’s Indian website says the 8R will be available at this discounted price until stocks last.
