TVS Motor Co, which continues to ride a surging wave of demand for its scooters, both ICE and electric, is benefiting from the sustained growth delivered by its second-bestselling model, the Ntorq. Launched on February 5, 2018, the Ntorq 125 had sold 2.08 million (20.8 lakh) units till end-August 2025. September 2025 saw TVS roll out the Ntorq 150, the more powerful sibling that is the brand’s largest ICE scooter to date and is based on the same platform as the Ntorq 125.
With its strategy to target two different sub-segments with an expanded line-up and also draw scooter buyers upgrading to a 150cc model, the Ntorq brand is witnessing a sharp surge in demand in the current fiscal.
In August 2026, TVS factories dispatched 40,256 Ntorq scooters, comprising 28,298 Ntorq 125s, down 7 percent year on year (YoY) and 11,958 Ntorq 150s. The other models which contributed to TVS’s 256,442 scooter sales in August were the Jupiter (147,450 units), Zest (11,213 units) and the two EVs, iQube (42,882 units) and Orbiter (14,641 units).
While the first million (10 lakh) units were sold in 51 months after launch, the run from there to two million (20 lakh) units took another three years. The surge in combined Ntorq 125 and 150 wholesales in August 2026 meant that the last half-a-million, or 5,00,000 units, have been sold in the past 15 months. August sales took total Ntorq brand wholesales to 25,03,829 units, enabling it to ride past the 2.5 million (25 lakh) mark in eight-and-a-half years since launch.
With the Ntorq 125 joined by its more powerful 150cc sibling, this TVS scooter brand’s sales have jumped 42 percent in April-August 2026 and should go on to hit a new fiscal-year high of over 4,50,000 units.
Since launch in February 2018 till end-August 2026, the Ntorq accounts for a 20 percent share of the 12.81 million scooters TVS has sold in India since February 2018. As per the wholesales data table above, the Ntorq’s best 12-month sales came in FY2026 when it sold 3,63,904 units, up 9 percent YoY (FY2025: 334,414 units) and accounted for 16 percent of TVS’s record scooter sales of 2.30 million (23 lakh) units. This share, however, is considerably down from the 29 percent share the Ntorq had in FY2022, which indicates its contribution has slowed down over the past three years in comparison to the Jupiter (whose share grew to 64 percent in FY2026) and the entry of the electric iQube in FY2021 (16 percent share in FY2026).
In FY2026, the Ntorq 125 (3,63,904 units) was India’s fifth-bestselling scooter, down one rank from its No. 4 position in FY2025 due to being eclipsed by its zero-emission cousin, the TVS iQube (3,67,501 units). The Top 3 scooters in FY2026 were the Honda Activa (2.84 million units), TVS Jupiter (1.4 million units) and the Suzuki Access (812,920 units). In FY2026, the Ntorq 125 was India’s third most-exported scooter at 97,467 units, below the Honda Navi and Dio.
In the first five months of FY2027, the combined sales of the Ntorq 125 and 150, at 1,84,475 units, make for strong 42 percent YoY growth (April-August 2025: 1,30,023 units). While the Ntorq 125 will continue to soldier on, the Ntorq 150 is expected to further accelerate this TVS scooter brand’s sales in the coming months. Available in two variants – Standard (Rs 1,19,000) and TFT (Rs 1,29,000) – the Ntorq 150 is packed to the gills with many features, some techy and some practical. The TVS Ntorq 150 is priced rather competitively and is the most affordable option in this class. Its main rivals are the popular Yamaha Aerox 155 (Rs 1,51,000-1,54,000), the new Hero Xoom 160 (Rs 1,49,000) and the Aprilia SR 175 (Rs 1,26,000). According to Autocar India, the Ntorq’s price tag makes it a good chunk more affordable than the liquid-cooled, maxi-styled Hero and Yamaha and also the sporty and petite Aprilia. In fact, the Ntorq 150’s starting price is just Rs 11,000 more than that of the top 125cc Ntorq XT variant (Rs 1,08,000).
Ntorq brand headed for record 4,50,000 units in FY2027
In the years following the pandemic, the domestic scooter industry has gradually come into its own, driven by refreshed as well as new models, a revival of demand from rural India and semi-urban regions, the GST 2.0 reform, which slashed prices of ICE models, and the rapid advance of zero-emission electric models. India’s scooter industry, which sold a record 8.1 million units in FY2026, is expected to close in on the 10 million milestone in FY2027. And TVS Motor Co, with its portfolio of scooters comprising the ICE-powered Jupiter 125 and 150, Ntorq 125 and 150, Zest and electric iQube and Orbiter, will also be looking to achieve new highs.
Given that the Ntorq 125 and 150 have averaged monthly wholesales of 36,895 units in the April-August 2026 period, expect the two Ntorqs to add 2,60,000-2,80,000 units between September 2026 and March 2027. This would mean a forecast of record Ntorq brand sales of 4,50,000 units in FY2027.
