Bengaluru-based electric two-wheeler manufacturer Ultraviolette Automotive plans to introduce four products based on its newly developed VX-100 platform over the next 12 months, as it expands its portfolio beyond premium electric motorcycles into scooters and more affordable motorcycle segments. The new platform, based on a 100V architecture, made its production debut with the X-47 Venom, available now at an introductory starting price of Rs 2.65 lakh.

  1. The Tesseract and Shockwave will get the VX-100 platform next; F77 also in the works
  2. UV is increasing production capacity to 60,000 at its existing facility
  3. New plant in Hosur, Tamil Nadu, has been commissioned with 2.50 lakh initial capacity

What other products to expect from the VX-100 platform?

The X-47 got the platform first, because it is UV’s bestseller

Ultraviolette is preparing to introduce the Tesseract electric scooter and Shockwave motorcycle in the first quarter of 2027, while an updated version of its F77 sport-naked is also under development. While Niraj Rajmohan, chief technical officer of Ultraviolette, specified four new products will be launched based on the VX-100 platform, he did not go into any further details about the products.

The major upgrade on the latest X-47 has come in the form of weight savings thanks to the improved platform, followed by the range. The base 7.5kWh variant now weighs 180kg, 17kg less than the older X-47 with the 7kWh battery. The top Recon variant with an 11kWh battery weighs 195kg, 13kg lower than its predecessor with a 10kWh battery. Ultraviolette also claims improved range figures. The top variant’s IDC range is 343km (up from 323km), while the base variant has a 227km IDC range (up from 211km).

Rajmohan said that the company selected the X-47 Venom to debut the new platform, as it has quickly become its bestseller. Besides the crossover motorcycle, Ultraviolette also currently sells the F77 and the F77 Street. Of course, there are also the upcoming Shockwave and the Tesseract, the latter of which will mark the company’s entry into the electric scooter market. Both were supposed to launch by the end of 2026, but have been delayed since the new 100V architecture required extensive redesign. They are now expected in the first quarter of 2027.

Manufacturing, product and sales network expansion

UV is preparing to increase production and sales network; and a six vehicle line-up

The product expansion comes as Ultraviolette seeks to build on strong sales growth in 2026, although its volumes remain relatively small. According to VAHAN retail registration data, monthly registrations reached a record 694 units in July, an increase of 406 percent from 137 units in July last year. However, registrations have moderated to 536 units in September, placing Ultraviolette behind Oben and Revolt among electric motorcycle manufacturers.

Rajmohan said the company was working towards a monthly run rate of approximately 1,000 vehicles and expected this to increase to around 10,000 vehicles by October 2027, supported by new products and expanded manufacturing capacity. To support the expanding line-up, UV is increasing capacity at its existing manufacturing facility to approximately 50,000-60,000 vehicles annually. It is also developing a new factory in Hosur, Tamil Nadu, with an initial planned annual capacity of 2.50 lakh vehicles, expandable to 5 lakh. Both factories are being designed to manufacture multiple products, providing flexibility between motorcycles and scooters.

Ultraviolette is also expanding its distribution network. Rajmohan said the company currently operates around 55 showrooms and expects that to increase to approximately 100 by the end of 2026 or the first quarter of 2027. The expansion follows Ultraviolette’s USD 85 million fundraising in September to support manufacturing, new vehicle platforms and international growth. The company has outlined a broader roadmap comprising four electric motorcycles and two electric scooters, as it seeks to increase volumes in India and expand its presence in overseas markets. Speaking of which, it is planning to launch the X-47 Venom in 20 European markets in the near future, kicking things off with a showcase at EICMA 2026.
