Initial offerings could include Viper and Rasad electric scooters, which were patented in India earlier this year
After its successful foray into the electric car market, VinFast is now eyeing India’s two-wheeler space, which is the largest in the world in terms of sales volumes. VinFast will be focusing on electric two-wheelers, as evident with design patents filed in recent months. Letter of intent (LoI) agreements signed with 50+ two-wheeler dealers reveal that VinFast is close to starting its new journey in India.
VinFast to launch electric scooters in 15 states
In the initial phase, VinFast is working on plans to establish more than 50 two-wheeler showrooms across 15 states and UTs. These outlets will primarily target around 34 big cities that have shown strong demand for electric two-wheelers. While the list of cities has not been revealed, the states to be covered are known.
VinFast will commence its electric two-wheeler operations across states like Delhi, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Gujarat, Kerala, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha and West Bengal. However, an exact launch timeline has not been revealed. It could happen soon in the coming weeks or a date around New Year or sometime in 2027 could be targeted.
VinFast has already gained experience in India through its electric car business, so things can be expected to move at a fast pace. Electric two-wheeler sales are consistently rising month after month, which is a positive environment for new players like VinFast. In August 2026, electric two-wheeler sales were at 1,88,714 units, a YoY gain of 131%. VinFast electric scooters will challenge rivals like Bajaj Chetak, TVS iQube, Hero Vida, Ather Rizta, Ather 450 and TVS Orbiter.
VinFast Rasad launch likely
In 2024, VinFast had patented the Klara S electric scooter in India. More recently, the VinFast Viper was patented in June 2026, followed by the Rasad electric scooter in August. Among these, the Rasad is an entirely new electric scooter. It is not available in any global market where VinFast operates. This indicates that VinFast could be working on some entirely new models for the Indian market.
While VinFast is known for its mass-market offerings, the journey in India could start with a flagship product. More affordable options could be introduced at a later date. VinFast is expected to cover multiple segments, including the economy, mid-range and premium segments. Specifications and features of VinFast Rasad have not been revealed. However, speculative reports mention that the scooter could use a 7.1 kW centrally mounted electric motor. Top speed could be around 100 km/h.
While new to India, VinFast has significant experience and expertise in this segment. In its home market of Vietnam, VinFast is the top-selling electric two-wheeler brand and the second-best-selling two-wheeler brand overall. In the electric domain, it has a market share of over 43% in Vietnam. The Indian electric two-wheeler market has huge potential and offers good opportunities to both established and relatively newer players.
