Pune plant capacity will expand to 3.20 lakh vehicles annually by 2030, while Hyundai celebrates 40 lakh cumulative exports from India
Hyundai Motor India has formally inaugurated its manufacturing facility at Talegaon, Pune, with Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis attending the ceremony on October 14, 2026. The company plans to invest up to Rs 11,000 crore at the facility in phases, supporting higher production capacity and future models.
The inauguration comes a day after Hyundai Motor Group announced its USD 15.5 billion India investment programme for 2026–2032. Hyundai also marked 30 years in India, nearly 1 crore domestic passenger-vehicle sales and 40 lakh cumulative exports.
Pune Capacity To Reach 3.20 Lakh Units
Hyundai’s Pune plant currently has an installed annual production capacity of 1.70 lakh vehicles. This will increase in phases to 3.20 lakh units by 2030. Together with Chennai operations, Hyundai Motor India’s annual manufacturing capacity will reach nearly 11.4 lakh vehicles. The facility also houses an engine shop producing 1.50 lakh engines annually to support vehicle manufacturing.
Hyundai acquired this plant from GM India back in 2023 and the production started in Q4 2025 with the new Venue. New Hyundai Venue is manufactured exclusively at Pune and exported to global markets. Hyundai plans to expand its export reach from the facility to more than 35 countries, strengthening Pune’s role in both domestic supply and overseas shipments.
Production Lines Can Support Hybrids
Pune’s flexible production systems can accommodate multiple models, including ICE and hybrid vehicles in future. This gives Hyundai manufacturing capability to support a wider powertrain portfolio as its India product range expands. The company is also working with seven leading Indian institutes on nearly 40 research projects covering battery technology, electrification and future mobility.
Hyundai does not identify the hybrid models planned for Pune or provide a production timeline. However, the capability is significant update considering the buzz around next-gen Creta Hybrid. Unconfirmed reports suggest the next-generation Creta, expected to launch in India in 2027, could become Hyundai’s first hybrid offering in the country.
AI-Based Manufacturing And Quality Checks
Hyundai describes Pune as one of its most advanced manufacturing facilities globally. Built around Industry 4.0 principles, the plant uses the company’s E-FOREST platform to integrate digital manufacturing systems.
Its operations include AI-based quality inspection and defect detection, predictive maintenance and analytics aimed at improving production efficiency. Digital simulations and augmented reality-based training support workforce development, while AI-enabled systems are also used for workplace safety.
The campus includes training infrastructure, medical and wellness facilities. It has received a 2026 Red Dot Award for its people-centric workplace design.
Suppliers Invest Nearly Rs 4,600 Crore
The Pune operation is supported by 55 supplier partners that have already invested nearly Rs 4,600 crore in Maharashtra. Nearly half of the supplier sourcing network is located within a 50-kilometre radius of the plant.
According to Hyundai, this supplier ecosystem, including Tier 1 and Tier 2 vendors, has generated more than 18,000 employment opportunities in the state. Hyundai Motor India MD and CEO Tarun Garg said the phased investment would support manufacturing expansion, industrial development, innovation and employment in the region.
Hyundai India Reaches 40 Lakh Exports, 1 Crore Domestic Sales
Alongside the inauguration, Hyundai announced that cumulative passenger-vehicle exports from India have reached 40 lakh units since shipments began in 1999. The company says it is the first automobile manufacturer to achieve this milestone from India and remains the country’s largest passenger-vehicle exporter on a cumulative basis.
Domestic sales have also reached nearly 1 crore units. With Pune capacity set to expand and Venue exports planned for more markets, the facility will play a larger role in Hyundai’s Indian manufacturing and global supply operations.
