Jawa 42 takes centre stage as Jawa Yezdi Motorcycles marked Czech Day 2026 at the Embassy of the Czech Republic in New Delhi. The event looked back at Jawa’s origins in Prague and its decades-long relationship with India.

Jawa was founded in Prague in 1929 with the JAWA 500 OHV as its first creation. Then they followed it with the lighter JAWA 175 in 1932 that intended to make motorcycling more accessible to a wider audience. These early models were able to establish a brand identity built around engineering, practicality and relatively simple motorcycles with plenty of character.

Another important chapter came with the Jawa Pérák. Developed during the Second World War, the motorcycle later became one of the better-known products in Jawa’s history. The company also made developments such as its automatic clutch system as an example of its willingness to experiment with new ideas.

For Indian riders Jawa’s history carries a much more personal connection. The brand’s relationship with India began in 1960 with Ideal Jawa. Over time, these motorcycles became part of the country’s riding culture and developed a loyal following. That connection also spread into motorsport, rider communities, popular culture and Indian cinema.

Jawa then returned to India in 2018 with the Jawa 42 becoming one of the key motorcycles in that comeback. Classic Legends described it as the model that helped establish the modern classic category for a new generation of modern Indian riders.

The 42 has since become the foundation for a broader family. Jawa’s current All Stars range has the Jawa 42, Jawa 42 FJ and Jawa 42 Bobber, each taking a slightly different approach to the same modern-classic idea still allowing the brand in maintaining a recognisable design language.

That makes Czech Day 2026 more than a ceremonial heritage event. It gives Jawa an opportunity to connect the brand’s Czech origin story with its current Indian products. For a company whose reputation in India is heavily influenced by memory and nostalgia, that connection is valuable.
