Kolkata Police have added 183 electric motorcycles to its two-wheeler fleet, with Ultraviolette’s X-47 ‘Skyforce’ being deployed for patrol and other operational duties across the city. The motorcycles were formally handed over at Lalbazar Police Headquarters on Friday.
The X-47 ‘Skyforce’ is a patrol-specific version configured for police use. The motorcycles come equipped to accommodate operational gear including sirens, hooters, a public address system, LED blinkers, microphone and walkie-talkie holders, decals and side panniers.
Unlike a ceremonial induction, the motorcycles are intended for day-to-day policing, with the manufacturer saying they have undergone testing before being handed over to the force.
The X-47 is a crossover electric motorcycle designed around performance, manoeuvrability and range. Its configuration allows officers to carry police equipment while navigating urban roads and responding to calls.
Ultraviolette said the Kolkata Police deployment also marks the company’s first large-scale induction into a police fleet. The company has described the X-47 as a purpose-built tactical motorcycle rather than a standard electric two-wheeler adapted for police use.
For the police force, the shift to electric motorcycles could also have operational implications beyond reducing fuel use. Electrifying a large fleet could lower running and maintenance costs, and the motorcycles’ equipment configuration allows them to be used for regular patrol duties.
