Following the launch of City facelift, ZR-V hybrid and Elevate facelift in 2026, Honda will unveil its India-made 0 Alpha electric SUV on December 2
Honda has confirmed December 2, 2026 as the India debut date for its upcoming 0 Alpha electric SUV. First showcased as a prototype at the Japan Mobility Show in October 2025, the model has since undergone extensive testing across India. It will be manufactured locally for domestic sales and exports, adding a new electric offering to Honda’s portfolio.
The announcement continues an active year for Honda Cars India. City facelift arrived in May, followed by ZR-V hybrid in July and Elevate facelift a few days ago. With 0 Alpha becoming its fourth new car of 2026, Honda will finish the year with a broader selection spanning petrol, hybrid and electric powertrains.
Honda 0 Alpha – Made For India, Made In India
Honda officially began 0 Alpha’s pan-India testing programme at its Tapukara facility in March 2026. The programme covers highways, urban traffic and challenging terrain, with evaluations focused on durability, ride and handling, efficiency and reliability.
Testing also includes extreme temperatures, heavy rain and different charging infrastructure conditions. A prototype spotted in Manali in June provided an early look at the cabin, while earlier this month it was spotted being evaluated on broken roads near Tapukara.
Upright Design, Large Touchscreen
Camouflaged test vehicles have retained the concept’s upright proportions, tall roofline and generous glass area. Squared wheel arches, relatively smooth body panels and aero-style wheels contribute to a distinctive silhouette, with the design appearing to prioritise cabin space.
It gets a closed-off front fascia, distinctive lighting elements and a prominent bumper. At the rear, prototypes featured an upright tailgate, large windscreen, roof-mounted spoiler and layered bumper.
Inside, spy shots have shown a large landscape-oriented central touchscreen, a separate digital instrument cluster and a multifunction steering wheel. The dashboard appears relatively uncluttered, although Honda has yet to reveal the production cabin and complete equipment list.
Battery capacity, motor output, certified range and charging specifications remain unannounced. These details, along with pricing, will determine how 0 Alpha competes with electric SUVs such as Hyundai Creta Electric, Tata Sierra EV and Mahindra BE 6.
India Remains Important Despite Global EV Reset
The progress of 0 Alpha contrasts with Honda’s wider reassessment of its electric vehicle investments. Earlier this year, the company announced the cancellation of Honda 0 SUV, 0 Saloon and Acura RSX programmes planned for North America, amid changing market conditions and financial pressures.
Honda has nevertheless continued developing 0 Alpha, with India serving as both a sales market and a manufacturing base. The company has identified India as a priority market alongside North America and Japan, with a greater focus on locally relevant products and cost competitiveness.
New Launches Could Help Strengthen Sales
Honda’s expanded lineup comes at a time when its domestic sales performance remains mixed. September 2026 sales stood at 4,465 units, down 15.80% from 5,303 units a year earlier. Sales also declined 17.08% compared to August’s 5,385 units.
However, Q3 showed improvement. Honda recorded domestic sales of 15,864 units during July–September 2026, up 20.15% from 13,203 units in the same quarter last year. Elevate facelift, launched after the quarter ended, and 0 Alpha could help build on that growth by attracting additional SUV buyers.
The electric model also brings an export opportunity. Honda’s Q3 exports declined 25.11% to 6,883 units from 9,191 units. Local production of 0 Alpha for overseas markets could support factory volumes alongside its domestic contribution, depending on the export rollout.
