A Chinese entrepreneur has set a new world record by riding a modified motorcycle across open water for 40.74 km. Zhang Xue, the founder of motorcycle maker ZXMOTO, completed the unusual challenge in his hometown in Hunan province, China, after years of trying to make the feat possible.
The 39-year-old’s achievement has earned him a place in the Guinness World Records. His latest attempt also broke the previous record of 31.8 km.
Zhang Xue Rides Motorcycle For Over 40 Km On Water
Zhang completed the ride on October 25 in Mayang Miao autonomous county, Huaihua, in China’s Hunan province. He rode a specially modified MX450 motorcycle for 40.74 km, setting a new record for the longest distance covered by a modified motorcycle on open water.
According to China Daily, the motorcycle was fitted with special floating parts and waterproof features that helped it stay above water and keep moving. Rescue boats and medical teams were also present throughout the attempt to ensure his safety.
Zhang completed six rounds of the river course despite facing sharp turns and physical strain. Officials from Guinness World Records checked the GPS records, timing details and video footage before confirming the achievement. Adjudicator Xiong Wen announced the result at the venue.
The record was set in a category that measures the longest distance travelled on open water using a modified motorcycle.
Entrepreneur Spent Years Trying To Make The Feat Possible
The achievement came after years of effort and several failed attempts. Zhang first tried riding a motorcycle on water when he was 22 years old. However, his first four attempts did not go as planned, with the longest ride covering only 20 metres.
For the latest challenge, Zhang and his team spent five months working on the motorcycle. They made changes to its floating parts, waterproof seals and power system. The team also carried out several tests in water to make the motorcycle more stable.
Speaking about his long journey, Zhang said, “I believed I could make it happen. Even if I failed, I would keep pursuing it without hesitation. I really enjoy the process,” according to VnExpress International.
Zhang also said that completing the challenge in his hometown made the moment special. Apart from achieving a personal goal, he hoped the record would bring attention to Mayang and help more people learn about the region.
