A mysterious new Maruti Suzuki test mule has been spied, which is believed to be an electric 7-seater from India’s largest carmaker. It has been spied a couple of times before and latest spy shots from Aditya Yadav (carlord_767) show more detail and clarity, revealing its rear design, while front, side and interiors cannot be seen.
An exhaust end can is not visible in this test mule and we can see a hint of a battery, mounted under the floor and high-voltage cables seem to be neatly hidden from sight. This upcoming electric 7S is said to be internally called YMC and will be Maruti’s first-ever electric 7-seater in the country.
New Maruti YMC Electric MPV Spied
Very little is known about Maruti’s upcoming electric 7-seater offering. There is a possibility of Maruti marketing it as an electric MPV, considering the brand’s dominance in MPV space. Previous spy shots showed a long silhouette with a short bonnet. Latest spy shots only show rear design up close and in higher clarity.
Some SUV credentials like body cladding are present, but Kia Clavis and Maruti’s own XL6 gets them too, despite not being advertised as SUVs. Upcoming Maruti YMC shares some semblances with eVItara too, suggesting that it could be based on same Heartect-e/27PL platform as eVitara. Considering the increasing frequency of test mules, launch could happen in 2027.
The rear design as seen in these recent spy shots suggest an end-to-end connected tail light design along with a squarish tailgate opening. We can also see UV-Cut glass with a slight Green tint. This would normally suggest a Nexa product, but Victoris exists and there is a possibility of upcoming Maruti YMC being sold from Arena showrooms too.
Other notable elements we could spot from these latest spy shots include a Red temporary registration plates from Gurgaon North (HR 26), a shark fin antenna, high-mount stop lamp, rear defogger, rear washer and wiper and a long rear overhang, where the third row of seating could be accommodated.
What to expect?
Upcoming Maruti Suzuki YMC might be based on the same Heartect-e/27PL platform as eVitara. 18-inch alloy wheels as eVitara, 225-section tyres, all-LED lighting, body cladding and other exterior attributes are likely. Fuel filler cap, however, looks like it is on the rear left quarter panel, unlike eVitara.
Inside, Maruti YMC could pack 7S or 5S options along with a host of features from Victoris like ADAS, TFT instrument cluster and others. Previous spy shots suggested absence of powered tailgate, which Victoris gets. Battery and motor could be shared with eVitara with up to 61 kWh battery promising around 500 km range and up to 172 bhp FWD motor.
