While earlier reports had indicated a festive-season release for Virtus facelift, the launch date is expected for December 2026

Volkswagen is working on the Virtus facelift, the first mid-life update for the popular sedan. Test mules have been spotted multiple times, providing a glimpse of the new features. Launch is expected to happen in December 2026, as per dealer sources. Virtus sibling Skoda Slavia received its mid-life update earlier this month.

Volkswagen Virtus facelift exterior – What’s new?

Exterior updates for Virtus facelift are focused largely on the front fascia and rear profile. Changes are expected across the lighting setup and front grille. A full-width LED light strip is likely, which will integrate an illuminated Volkswagen logo. A sharper, more contemporary bumper design is expected with Virtus facelift. Several exterior updates introduced with the Virtus facelift could be similar to those seen on the Taigun facelift.

There aren’t that many changes to the side profile barring a few exceptions such as a new design for the alloy wheels. Similarly, there could be scope for some new colour options. Virtus facelift continues with its distinctive character line and traditional door handles. At the rear, refreshed tail lamps could be introduced. An illuminated logo is also possible. There could be some variations in the bumper as well.

Equipment upgrades

Inside, Volkswagen Virtus facelift could get a new theme and refreshed upholstery. Tech package is expected to remain largely the same, with the 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system to be carried over. While the size remains the same, the UI/UX could come in a new format. In other updates, the existing 8-inch digital instrument cluster could be upgraded to a new 10.25-inch unit.

Virtus is already well-equipped with features such as ventilated front seats with leather inserts, electrically adjustable front seats, and electrically adjustable and foldable ORVMs. The sedan has an 8-speaker audio system, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and Type C data and charging ports. Volkswagen’s connectivity suite allows access to features like live tracking, geo fence, time fence, safety alerts and driving behaviour assessment.

Other highlights include automatic AC, rear AC vents, ambient lighting and leatherette seats. Safety kit includes electronic stability control, multi collision braking, 6 airbags, hill start assist, rear parking sensors and camera, and tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS). Safety could be enhanced with a 360° camera setup.

Powertrain options

Virtus facelift will continue with the existing 1.0-litre turbo petrol and the 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine options. However, the smaller engine will get a new 8-speed torque converter automatic transmission, replacing the older 6-speed AT. The 6-speed manual transmission will be carried over. This engine generates 115 PS and 178 Nm of torque.

Virtus variants with the 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine generate 150 PS and 250 Nm of torque. Transmission choices include a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed DSG. With the updates, Virtus facelift could see a slight price hike. However, the base variant could be offered at the same price as earlier. The current model is available in the price range of Rs 10.71 lakh to Rs 18.85 lakh. Range topping Virtus Sport is priced at Rs 19.20 lakh.
