The new Himalayan 440 has gone on sale in India at Rs 2.29 lakh, ex-showroom. It is, essentially, a resurrected Himalayan 411, with a new 443cc heart, among other changes. Here is a look at the images of the bike.

The design of the Himalayan 440 is similar to the 411 and that is not a bad thing at all. It’s a case of function over form, evident in the shape of the fuel tank, the short windscreen and the minimal tail section. The lack of bodywork in most places means fewer things that’ll break in the event of a fall while riding off-road.

Powering the Himalayan 440 is a 443cc, air and oil-cooled, single-cylinder engine that makes 25.4bhp at 6250rpm and 34Nm at 4,000rpm. It is paired with a six-speed gearbox. The engine’s long stroke setup makes for a grunty nature that’ll ensure the motorcycle chugs along with minimal effort.

Royal Enfield Himalayan 440 Front Suspension

Under the bodywork is a half-duplex cradle frame that is suspended by a telescopic fork and monoshock. The front suspension travel is a generous 200mm while at the rear, there is 180mm travel. The bike has a ground clearance of 220mm which is good enough to tackle most off-road trails.

The bike rides on a 21-inch front and 17-inch rear spoke wheel setup. Braking is taken care of by a 300mm front disc and 240mm rear disc brake. The brake calipers have been updated with larger pistons for better braking performance.
