New Tata Safari EV Triple Screen

Based on the Acti.ev+ platform, Tata Safari EV will be offered in both 6-seater and 7-seater versions

Tata Motors currently leads the electric passenger car segment in India with a market share of around 40%. New products are in the pipeline to maintain segment dominance and further strengthen the brand’s position. One of the upcoming models is Safari EV, which is expected to be launched in January 2027. Tata Safari EV will primarily compete with Mahindra XEV 9S and the recently launched MG Hector Tomahawk EV.

Safari EV – Performance, battery, range

While official specifications are still under wraps, the Safari EV is expected to be the most potent EV ever from Tata. When launched, it will be Tata’s new flagship EV. Safari EV will be built on the Acti.ev+ platform, which also underpins the Harrier EV. The 65 kWh and 75 kWh battery packs available with Harrier EV may be offered with Safari EV as well.

Upcoming Tata Safari EV Spied

However, reports suggest that Safari EV could also get the option of a larger 80 kWh battery pack. This could be offered with the top trims. With this battery pack, Safari EV could offer the highest range among all Tata electric cars. This will make the SUV more suitable for long distance and intercity journeys. The existing 75 kWh battery pack, as used with the Harrier, already has a good claimed range of 627 km (RWD).

Range is slightly lower at 622 km with the AWD variant. Upcoming Safari EV, with its 80 kWh battery pack, could also gain a perception advantage over the XEV 9S, whose top variants have a 79 kWh battery pack. Another advantage for Safari EV is that it is expected to be offered in both RWD and AWD formats.

Performance numbers of Safari EV could be similar to that of Harrier EV. The latter uses a single motor setup with RWD variants, generating 238 PS and 315 Nm of torque. Harrier EV AWD (QWD) uses a 158 PS front motor and a 238 PS rear electric motor. Torque output is 504 Nm. Safari EV will also challenge MG Hector Tomahawk EV, which is equipped with a 69.2 kWh battery pack, offering a range of up to 517 km.

Exterior, interior, key features

There will be EV-specific features such as a closed-off grille, aero-optimized alloy wheels and exclusive badging elements. Lighting setup could be refreshed and some new colour options could be introduced. Apart from these, most of the features of Safari EV will be largely the same as the ICE model.

Tata Safari EV Spied Testing

Inside, Safari EV could get a triple screen layout, as already available with Sierra EV. Equipment list will be largely the same, as available with Harrier EV. Key features include ventilated front seats, a panoramic sunroof, premium audio system, dual-zone climate control and a powered tailgate. Other expected features include a 540° surround view camera, Level 2 ADAS suite, wireless smartphone charging, connected car tech and multiple driving modes.

Safari EV – Expected price

Tata could offer the Safari EV at an introductory starting price of around Rs 20 lakh. Top variants could be priced around Rs 30-32 lakh. Rival Mahindra XEV 9S is available at a starting price of Rs 20.65 lakh. MG Hector Tomahawk EV is priced at Rs 19.49 lakh.
