Mahindra launched the XUV 3XO in April 2024 as the facelifted XUV300, with a redesigned exterior and interior and new convenience and safety features. It has since reshuffled the variant-wise features and added RevX trims to stay competitive in the compact SUV space. Alongside the petrol and diesel versions, the XUV 3XO ZNG now joins the line-up as the CNG alternative. There are now three engine options across 12 trims, including the new MX Edge. Which variant should you choose? Let us find out.

Mahindra XUV 3XO powertrain options and prices

Two turbo-petrol engine options, a diesel and a CNG option spread across 12 trims

Mahindra offers the XUV 3XO with three engine options: a 1.2-litre MPFi (multi-point fuel injection) turbo-petrol producing 111hp and 200Nm, a 1.2-litre TGDi (direct injection) turbo-petrol producing 131hp and 230Nm, and a 1.5-litre diesel producing 117hp and 300Nm. Both turbo-petrol engines can be had with a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque-converter automatic transmission (AT). The diesel is mated to a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automated manual transmission (AMT).

The XUV 3XO ZNG pairs the 1.2-litre MPFi turbo-petrol engine with a factory-fitted CNG kit. According to Mahindra, it produces the same 111hp and 200Nm in both CNG and petrol modes, with peak torque available between 1,500rpm and 3,500rpm. The CNG version has a claimed mileage of 24.7km/kg, while its twin-cylinder setup beneath the boot floor allows for 270 litres of boot space. For reference, the non-CNG variants of the XUV 3XO have a boot capacity of 364 litres. The XUV 3XO ZNG is offered only with a 6-speed manual gearbox, but a fuel ‘auto-switch’ feature is standard.

Which variant of the Mahindra XUV 3XO should you buy?

The AX5 is the pick across all powertrains, while the AX7 is worth the stretch for diesel buyers

Priced between Rs 10.00 lakh and Rs 12.20 lakh, the AX5 is the most sensible XUV 3XO variant. Offered in petrol, diesel and CNG guises, the AX5 gets LED headlamps, alloy wheels, TPMS, dual-zone climate control and a digital instrument cluster. For lower running costs, the AX5 ZNG at Rs 11.19 lakh also adds cruise control while undercutting the Tata Nexon Creative + S CNG and Maruti Brezza ZXI CNG by around Rs 33,000 and over Rs 50,000, respectively.

Diesel buyers wanting a more premium experience should opt for the AX7. Compared to the AX5, it adds a panoramic sunroof, leatherette dashboard and door trim, a Harman Kardon audio system with a subwoofer, wireless charging, LED fog lamps, front parking sensors and 17-inch alloys.

All prices are ex-showroom, India.
