  • Spirit Lake gains engine production and up to 60 manufacturing jobs
  • Around 70 corporate positions are being eliminated
  • Sales, warranties and service support will continue globally

Indian Motorcycle announces restructuring as it moves away from its former Polaris ownership and establishes itself as an independent motorcycle company. These new changes will now strengthen manufacturing at Spirit Lake in Iowa, create dedicated corporate functions and remove overlapping positions inherited from the previous structure.

The restructuring follows Carolwood LP taking official ownership of Indian Motorcycle in February 2026. Indian is now being separated from the shared corporate systems it previously relied on while under Polaris requiring the motorcycle company to establish its own finance, administration and operational teams.

Indian Motorcycle has recently added engine production to the plant while also expanding its paint operations. It will help recruit up to 60 additional manufacturing employees as these capabilities grow. The company has spent the past seven months identifying duplicated functions and structural inefficiencies created during the separation from Polaris. Around 70 positions across different parts of the organisation are being eliminated as a result.

Indian Motorcycle has had a presence in India for years, but is still a very niche premium brand. The company has six authorised dealerships located in Delhi, Chandigarh, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai and Kochi. The issue in India has therefore been less about a lack of motorcycles and more about scale, accessibility and the commercial difficulty of selling large American motorcycles in relatively small numbers. Let’s see if becoming independent helps here.
