New Hyundai Bayon

While Hyundai Bayon has a sharp design, its main attraction for buyers could actually be its comprehensive equipment list and competitive pricing

Ahead of Bayon’s launch on 26th October, several new details about the SUV have been shared online. Dispatches to dealerships have also commenced. One such unit was recently spotted, revealing the exterior and interior in their true form. A fully packed equipment range indicates that this could be one of the top variants.

Hyundai Bayon – Design highlights

Captured with the lights on, Hyundai Bayon can be seen with H-style top mounted LED DRLs and an interconnecting glossy black strip. Trapezoidal headlamps are mounted lower, alongside the bumper. This is the top of the line manual variant.

The SUV has slatted elements on the grille and a faux skid plate. Front parking sensors are also noticeable. The bonnet has a prominent curve at the front, with the Hyundai logo neatly positioned on it.

Side profile reveals angular window frames, distinctive lines on the door panels, side moulding and squared wheel arches. Other highlights include body-coloured door handles, dual-tone ORVMs, blacked-out pillars and functional roof rails.

Bayon has sporty alloy wheels with Hyundai logo on the centre caps. At the rear, key features include a shark fin antenna, a roof mounted spoiler in a dual-tone finish and a raked windshield.

Lighting elements at the rear follow the same basic pattern as seen at the front. ‘BAYON’ lettering is displayed prominently on the boot lid. A chunky bumper has been used in a dual-tone finish and with diffuser-style elements.

This unit has the Fiery Red exterior paint, which suits the SUV’s sharp profile. Hyundai is offering a total of 10 colour options with Bayon, including monotone, dual-tone and matte options.

Interior details

Inside, the curved 12.3-inch dual screens instantly get your attention. AC vents are vertically stacked and there are physical buttons for the climate control for easy access. Bayon has a dual-tone interior theme, combining black and ultra-light grey. This theme has been applied across most surfaces including the dashboard, doors, seats and the steering wheel.

Bayon uses a 3-spoke steering wheel with mounted controls and Hyundai’s 4-dot logo. Ambient lighting adds to the appeal, radiating from the dashboard and door panels. The seats could be using a combination of fabric and leatherette materials.

A comprehensive range of premium features will be available with the Bayon. These include a panoramic sunroof, Bose audio, auto-dimming IRVM, front and rear dashcams and OTA updates.

Safety, performance

Hyundai Bayon also excels in safety, offering 35 safety features as standard across all variants. The SUV also has Hyundai SmartSense Level 2 Pro ADAS with 23 functions.

Bayon is built on Hyundai’s Global K Enhanced Platform, which is also designed for enhanced safety. It is expected that Bayon could achieve a 5-star rating in Bharat NCAP, as the SUV is specifically designed to meet such standards.

Bayon will be equipped with a four-cylinder, 1.5-litre MPi petrol engine that generates 115 PS and 143.8 Nm of torque. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual and an IVT automatic. Based on market feedback and segment positioning, more powertrains could be introduced with the Bayon in future. For context, turbo petrol and CNG options could be added at a later date. However, diesel is unlikely for the Bayon in India.
